I went next door to my neighbour’s yard as it’s always good for birdlife amongst the bushes but came back disappointed as there was nothing much around, despite the sun being out. So I was very surprised when I looked on my own lawns near the birdbath and raised beds to find a family of superb fairy-wrens hopping around. I set my sights on a male – they are a brilliant blue and black in colour. Missed getting it on the bird bath but did get it on the small maple tree nearby.

As I wandered around with camera in hand a couple with 3 dogs came towards me. The lady asked if I was taking pictures of pretty birds and when I said ‘yes’ she pointed back along the path they’d travelled and told me of a bird with a bright red chest and black back. So I went to have a look and wasn’t disappointed. The following pictures are of a Flame Robin who was quite happy to pose for me on top of several posts and tree trunks.
