Ducks at the park

At Lysterfield Lake there seems to be at least two different types of ducks living there.  One of those types loves sleeping in the trees. You can walk around and hear quacking above your head. This was one I saw recently while walking around the park.

This is the Australian Wood Duck and apparently only take to open water when disturbed.

And these two Pacific Black Ducks were enjoying one of the creeks there.

White faced heron

Regular readers will know that I’ve been trying to get closer shots of the white-faced heron at Lysterfield Lake Park.  While my sister-in-law and her husband were visiting recently, I took her down to the park to see first hand the beautiful place I love to roam regularly. Imagine my surprise to see the heron very close by on the beach near the weir wall.  My sister-in-law was quite happy to just enjoy her surroundings while I went in pursuit of some more shots!

Flock of Pelicans

While I was at Lysterfield Lake Park I saw a flock of pelicans fly from behind a tree and high up into the air.

I’m determined to get closer to this bird but it will take some time. I missed an opportunity on Saturday when I came across it suddenly – I hadn’t expect it, and neither had the bird. He took off before I could get some good close ups, and thought I’d missed my chance altogether. But later I saw it further down the beach at the lake so I had to content myself with these for now. Another day perhaps.

Big Eastern Greys

There were quite a few fairly big roos out when I was walking at the park too. These I made sure I kept my distance from. They would definitely tower over me when standing up right and they can do serious damage to you too. So I remained alert the whole time I was walking near the roos.

This one was scratching an itch when it stopped to watch me.

I've got an itch!

Birds at Lysterfield

Yesterday you saw the Christmas beetle and today I want to share with you a small selection of birds I’ve seen on my walks at Lysterfield Lake Park. The first is an Eastern Rosella, then an Eastern Yellow Robin and finally a Superb Fairy Wren, male, known for their brilliant blue colouring.

My daughter and I spent a lovely time walking around the park on Christmas Day.  It was so peaceful and the weather was ideal for walking.
