Sunset at Lysterfield

I talked my husband into taking me to Lysterfield Park on Friday evening. I’d been walking a total of two days, with the aid of a crutch, and I was itching to get outside again.  He was a bit reluctant but took me anyway, and watched over me very carefully as I made my way across the beach to a bench seat. I then took photos to my heart’s delight. I’ve seen more spectacular sunsets at the lake but I was happy to be viewing a sunset there again… at long last.

And, once it was gone, the water took on a silvery sheen and there was little colour in our surroundings.

Scotch Thistles

The scotch thistles are out. They are a weed and I need to get rid of them but, as yet, unable to work in the garden. However, they do make for good subject matter when taking photos.  And I love their colours when they’re in flower.

Holiday Season – another garden

I’m actually going to take you away from the Dandenong Ranges (shock! horror!) and encourage you to head south to the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens.  My husband I visited there for the first time last March, with my husband’s mate Dave. Dave had told us about these gardens and we thought we’d pay a visit.

It was still getting work done when we visited so I expect a lot more is on offer to view now. But we did love our visit and it’s probably time we went back again. Some had been created to look like the arid red desert lands in the middle of our country, other spots created to look like other parts of our country. And if you look hard enough you might even find a Koala and a Bandicoot – we did!

White Faced Grey Heron and young

Readers will know that I am often following the grey heron around at the park. Not that I’m actually stalking it, but if I see it I slow down my walk in an attempt to get closer without disturbing it too much. But many times it sees me before I see it.

Last week I was rewarded with seeing a heron at the end of the breakwater and to see the older one flying down to protect its young as I came into view.

In this shot it had just landed and placed its wing over the smaller one in a protective stance.

Then they both moved to the end of the breakwater, while keeping an eye on me.

Majestic Gum Trees

I love the beauty of the Australian Gum Tree (Eucalyptus) and thought this tree looked just beautiful.  We have several different versions of gum trees, their bark and trunks vary considerably.  You’ll see the stringy bark on this one.

The colours of Christmas

I only just realised a couple of weeks ago that the colours of the Bottle Brush are Christmas colours.  At least of the red bottle brush, I’ve seen a pink one and another that’s close to purple.

Shot this one just after the rain a few days ago.
